Grandparents As Parents (GAP)
Monthly Meeting Notice
Gulf Coast Grandparents As Parents is a network of support groups serving the families of the southern gulf coast of Texas. Groups meet in Angleton, Bay City, Alvin, and Pearland. The organization was established to lend support to the many grandparents as parents in our community. Throughout our nation, there are a growing number of grandparents that have stepped back into the role of parenting. Across the U.S. almost 7.8 million children are living in homes where grandparents and other relatives are householders, with more that 5.8 million children living in grandparents homes and nearly 2 million living with other relatives. Often they assume this responsibility with neither of the children’s parents present in the home. These grandparents and other relative caregivers and children are often isolated; they lack the information about the range of support services, resources, programs, benefits, laws and policies available to help them successfully fulfill their care-giving role.
